Biodegradable Drinking Straws and Other Simple Ways to Protect the Environment

There are so many small things that the average person can do to help the environment. You don't have to be able to make huge changes. If every single person made it a point to make small changes in their lives, the impact would be massive. We don't have to wait for the big corporations to take the lead. We can all do our part to lead us to a better future. Consider making one or more of the following changes. You'll feel great knowing that you're helping the Earth.

Straws

Many people love their straws. A drink just wouldn't taste the same without it and that's okay. Instead of foregoing your straws, keep them, but make them biodegradable drinking straws. When it comes to eco straws, Irvine residents took it seriously and have totally transformed the way that we think of straws. Now, you can have your straws, but make sure they are not harming the world. Consider the following about plastic straws.

  • They release chemicals as they break apart.

  • They harm animals.

  • They harm the air.

  • They harm the soil.

Why use something that causes so much damage and harm, when you can use one that doesn't cause any harm at all?

Walk

Instead of jumping into the car every time you need to go somewhere, consider whether you can walk to some places that are not too far from your home. Walk the children to and from school. Walk to the local store, or to the park. It's better for the earth and it's better for you. Your children will also love the fresh air and sunshine. You might also want to get a bike. You'll get to exercise, save money on the cost of fuel, and they are fun to ride. Run some of your errands on a bike.

Reuse

Instead of throwing something away, ask yourself if you can use it in another way. There are so many things around the house that can be repurposed instead of thrown away. Train yourself to look at everything before you get rid of it. If you can't reuse it, donate it or sell it. You'll be keeping it out of the landfill and that's always a good thing.
